Germany
- A sport boat licence (Sportbootführerschein) is required for many motorboats, depending on engine power and the waterway. Check the current rules at ELWIS, the official waterways portal.
- Many boats need an official mark or registration. Check which one applies to your boat with the responsible authority.
- Rules for inland waters and coastal waters can differ.
Sailing abroad
- Ask your insurer whether your cover includes the countries you plan to visit.
- Some countries ask for an international certificate or a registration document. Check before you leave.
Keep them safe and at hand
- Store a digital copy of every document, so a lost paper is not a lost proof.
- Note expiry dates for insurance and licences.
